What is it about?
The Belgariad is a series of 5 books by David Eddings. It is about Garion, a farmers boy who lives in Sendaria with his aunt Pol and the others on the farm. One day Garions aunt Pol hastily decides that they have to move. Does it have to do with that strange figure Garion keeps seeing around the farm?
Eventually Garion finds out that the world isn’t so black and white, there is magic in this world, and his own destiny is far more different than he would ever have imagined.
Together with his aunt Pol, the black smith Durnik and the Storyteller Unkle Wolf, Garion finds out about his family, his heritage, his own powers and that all those stories about ancient gods he heard as a child, are all true.

Comments.
The Belgariad was the first fantasy series I read as a child. I think I first read them around 1992, at age 8. Though in Swedish. I can still remember how enchanted they made me feel, so I decided to read them again last year.
Just as I remembered, the books are well written, exciting, funny and adventurous. Some might say that they are quite similar to The Lord of The Rings and others, which is fairly true, but what fantasy books aren’t alike?
These books are alive. I can see the story unfold in my head and I love it. The characters are vivid and funny, and realistic.

Would I read them again? Absolutely. I think this was the third or forth time I’ve read them and I still found them so exciting and was still sad, happy and suprised.

I would recommend these books to anyone who likes fantasy and they are ideal as a first go at the genre. Granted, the war strategy scenes are a bit long and boring at times, but it comes with the territory.

So what grade would I give this series?
5 out of 5.
